Turkey Meatballs with Parmesan Pasta



Our grocery store had ground turkey on sale a couple of weeks ago. Normally we don't buy the stuff, but since it was on sale we decided to pick one up. We threw the meat in the freezer until we decided what to do with it. Mike suggested burgers, but I have made turkey burgers and even though they were delicious I wanted to make something that I had not made before.

I had it on my mind for sometime, when I decided to make some meatball with some pasta. I didn't want to serve them with a red sauce so I decided to dress up the pasta with some cheese and some basil.

I decided to add to the flavor of the turkey with some onions, garlic, Parmesan cheese, and some Italian style bread crumbs. They paired perfectly with the Parmesan pasta; I thought the flavor was wonderful.  Adam still had to add some spaghetti sauce to his pasta; I guess old habits are hard to break.



Turkey meatballs with Parmesan Pasta 
Ingredients:
Meatballs -
1 pound turkey
2 tablespoons chopped onion
1 clove minced garlic
1 tablespoon milk
1 egg
3 tablespoon Italian style bread crumbs
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
Olive oil
Pasta -
6 to 9 ounces of your favorite pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried basil (if you have fresh basil that will work as well)
Directions:
Meatballs - 
In a medium bowl beat egg and milk together. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until ingredients are mix together well. Drizzle about 1 or 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a medium skillet and heat over medium heat. Form the turkey mixture into meatballs about the size of a golf ball. Place meatballs in heated skillet turning often for about 20 minutes or until the meatballs are no longer pink inside.
In the meantime cook pasta according to the package. Drain pasta once they are finished cooking, place in a large bowl and drizzle olive over the pasta and toss until it is evenly coated. Once this is done sprinkle Parmesan cheese and the basil over the pasta and toss until well blended. Stir in the meatball and serve.

  2. Cheese and pasta is a weakness of mine, Because I don't eat beef, my meat balls are usually made of pork, never thought to use turkey before - so thank you!

  7. I've been using ground turkey in place of beef for years but this is a recipe we haven't thought to try. I added double the bread crumbs and some red pepper flakes and they turned out perfect. Ended up making another batch for a freezer meal. Thanks!

  8. Looks delicious and I think those flavors with the cheese and the pasta would work really well together. Must try while the pasta-loving college son is home for the summer. I never need to worry about leftover pasta dishes while he is home, a good time to try lots of new recipes.

  9. So, I figured I would join Pinterest today to surprise my wife by looking up some recipes to try and this one is the first one I have come across that is pretty quick and easy. I must say this is a really tasty meal. I have a feeling I'll be making this again in the future. I may even make it as a small snack..lol. Great recipe and idea!!
